#GBE2: Patriotism in the Eye of the Storm

GBE2's weekly blogging topic is Patriotism while Theme Thursday is all about storms.

“Here is your country. Cherish these natural wonders, cherish the natural resources, cherish the history and romance as a sacred heritage, for your children and your children's children. Do not let selfish men or greedy interests skin your country of its beauty, its riches or its romance.”
Theodore Roosevelt

The great Republican president Teddy Roosevelt would be rolling over in his grave if aware of the actions of the current GOP that have caused 99%ers to storm to the streets in protest.

Our lands are in jeopardy, not only from hurricanes such as Sandy, but also from selfish or greedy men.
The Koch brothers have funded campaigns endorsing candidates who will abolish corporate regulations to enable Charles and David Koch to save money by not having to abide by government regulations. They've filled super pacts with unlimited funds for their own greed, while stripping areas surrounding their polluting plants of clean air and waters.

At the same time, the Koch brothers have pumped millions of dollars into ads to frighten Americans into believing that environmental regulations will cost us jobs. What's scary is the number of people who support government deregulation because of Koch sponsored ads. Oh, yes, a storm is coming if the Koch brothers get their way and our environment crumbles. I, for one, do not wish to give up the beauty of my country so that the Koch brothers can save money by having no regulations as they dump oil into our rivers.

To learn more about the Koch brothers, please watch this documentary. I know it's long, but it is also informative and well worth your time.

Isn't it always the environment vs money? We want money NOW, who cares what we leave for future.

I know of the Koch family...not good for our environment and I wish more people would yell at the top of their lungs about the political ties of these guys.

No one believes people like this really exist and have a plan, but they do and they are not about to back down. They want what they want and care nothing for the future.

Great post Joyce. I'm sharing on my page. ♥

Teddy had a love for his country, definitely.

It's always the same, and everywhere, too, alas. I remember former French president Sarkozy saying "Enough of that environmental stuff" right after having launched a (half-assed) national conference meant to regulate enironmental issues. The current policy seems to be deregulation in almost all countries worldwide. Even in what many US-citizens deem "socialist" Europe.

Definitely wise words of Theodore Roosevelt. A shame corrupt politicians.

There are just certain things that a company should not be allowed to do. Knowingly pollute is one thing. The plant should be shut down, fixed and they should have to fix up the river and all the surrounding areas affected by their pollution. And compensate those families who have lost a loved one or are ill right now.

Another place change needs to occur is with our politicians. One term only and at least two years have to have gone by before trying to start another election for a different position and there are no retirement packages from any position. And their pay is tied to the budget and how balanced it is. If there is a deficit then they get the same percentage out of their pay. If we have extra then they get an increase up to but not over 5%. Somehow I think things would change.

Thanks for the movie and my prayers go out for those people, and may it somehow get fixed.

Have a wonderful weekend and Happy TT.

God bless.

I watched some of the video and have bookmarked it so I can see the remainder later on. It puts a knot in my stomach to think what some people are willing to sell for money.
